Charlie Jackson
October 1920 - May 2006

The shop was founded in 1938 by Charlie Jackson, a keen aeromodeller who later competed to gain a second place at the World Model Air Olympics in 1954 in the 'Wakefield' rubber power class. He continued to build and fly all his life, and even had several models under construction when the illness that he had been fighting so courageously for five years finally beat him.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Advert for "Sprite"

Here is an early advert for one of Charlie's kit designs from around 1940.
The price for the complete kit was then just 9/- plus 9d postage!
(that's about 45p plus 4p postage for those of you too young to remember!)

Click here to see one of the first overseas mail orders !
Note the date!

The plan was 're-discovered' and featured in the March 1992 "SAM 35" Magazine.

A flying session in 1937 on "Ashton Moss" - the flying site of the
"Ashton Model Aircraft Club".
Not many of today's members turn out in suit and tie!
Charlie is the one with his tie blowing in the breeze - 2nd from right!

The club has adopted a new flying site - click here to see some aerial photographs.

Here are some of Charlie's creations.

The Rearwin Speedster

This is Charlie's model of a 1937 Rearwin Speedster.
It is conventional built up construction and uses an O.S. 52 four stroke.
Main covering is Easycover, with spats and u/c legs from epoxy glass coated balsa.
The fin decoration was laser printed on to plain paper to make transfers using
"Decal-It".

"Stinson Reliant" - a lifetime favorite of Charlies. This was the last of a long line of models of this aircraft, from free flight to control line that he built over the years.
